We have constructed and installed a number of new astroturf pitches in the midlands area over the past 12 months.
MUGA’s were the artificial grass surface of choice at Knockroghery NS, Dalystown NS and Ballyfeeney NS; whereas a 4G astroturf surface was installed in Ballagh NS.
We are currently in the process of installing a fibrillated astroturf surface in the Oliver Plunketts Hurling Club wall which is due to be completed shortly.
We have expanded our fleet of machinery for the installation of slit drains and for pitch drainage with the purchase of a Shelton Gravel Cart. This will make our process of pitch construction and pitch drainage more efficient and will give an improved quality to our works. We are continually improving our methods for pitch drainage and pitch construction through the additions to our fleet. We Hope to announce some new pitch drainage projects in the coming weeks.

Pitch Drainage – Harbour Field Mullingar
We recently improved the pitch drainage in the Harbour Field by installing gravel bands at 1m centres. These linked into the existing pitch drainage network.
Closely spaced gravel bands each 20-25mm wide leading to the piped drain and slit drain network below the surface. Bands of aggregate are injected into the ground by a vibrating channel opener and no soil is removed.
Congratulations to Mullingar Cricket Club for best none division 1 club outside of Dublin.
Midland Sport Surfaces have been working with them for a number of years now and it is great to see them get recognition for the quality of their playing surfaces.
MSS were selected by Killucan GAA to install astroturf goals on both of their GAA pitches. We were also contracted to carry out a thorough maintenance programme on both of their pitches.
This involved vertidraining, topdressing, selective weed control, overseeding with the Vredo and application of controlled release fertilizer. The results on the pitches were visible for all to see.

With their advancement into the top tier of Irish soccer, St Mochtas AFC were keen to get their senior pitch into top condition for the season ahead. MSS were selected to carry out their annual maintenance. In addition to this, we were asked to deal with a few problem spots in terms of drainage. We advised the club to gravel band the areas in question. The club are delighted with how the works were carried out. We are confident that there will be no issues with drainage in the problem areas.
For the past four seasons we have had to give up home advantage to opposition for more than half our home games. We rarely got to play on the pitch during the winter months. Last summer MSS installed slit drains on our pitch and the improvement has been unbelievable. We barely missed a home game this year and everyone in the club is delighted that we can now use the pitch.
